    06/01/2013 Florida Classical Ballet Gala Florida Classical Ballet Gala

    Magaly Suarez, the recognized ballet maître, and her assistant Ibis Montoto present another Ballet Gala with Florida Classical Ballet. This time, Florida Classical Ballet will present an ambitious program where the dancers will have the opportunity to exhibit their virtuosity and talent, with a cast of first class local dancers supported by superstar dancers from US and Europe, all of them idols of South Florida’s public, and some of them of them returning to Miami to perform on stage at the beautiful and historic Olympia Theater at the “Gusman Center for the Performing Arts" after years of absence.

    The Florida Classical Ballet Gala performance will begin with a Spanish suite including the ballet “Majisimo” from Cuban choreographer Jorge Garcia, followed by Paquita Pas de Trois and Don Quixote Pas de Deux. After a short inter-mission, La Esmeralda Pas de Six will be presented, followed by Swan Lake, Le Corsaire and Romeo and Juliet Pas de Deux; to close the night a Suite of La Bayadere will be featured. 

    The list of guest Super Stars includes our Adiarys Almeida from Boston Ballet and Jordan Elizabeth Long, recently promoted to Soloist of the Royal Swedish Ballet; Daniel Sarabia coming back from a few years with Maurice Bejart Ballet in Switzerland; and principal dancers Joan Boada and Taras Domitro from San Francisco Ballet together with new figures like Lonnie Weeks and Elizabeth Powell.

Come take a journey with our MVSA Dancers as they visit the fun-filled theme parks of Universal Studios, Magic Kingdom, Blast A-way Beach and Legoland.

    CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA
    An Opera in One Act

    Libretto by Giovanni Torgioni-Tozzetti and Guido Menasci.

    Easter day in a small Village of Sicily. Turiddu, a young villager, had returned from military service to find that while he was gone, his fiancée, Lola, had married Alfio, the prosperous village teamster. In revenge, Turiddu seduced Santuzza, a young girl in the village. As the opera begins, Lola, overcome by her jealousy of Santuzza, has begun an adulterous affair with Turiddu. Alfio learns from betrayed Santuzza about his wife’s passionate relation swearing vengeance. A typical knife duel is set where Turiddu is killed by Alfio before the consternation of the villagers.

    SUOR ANGELICA
    An Opera in One Act
    Music by Giacomo Puccini
    Libretto by Giovacchino Forzano

    The story of a nun who lives for seven years in a convent banished by her family for having had a child out of matrimony. One day her Princess-Aunt, a stern, imperious aristocrat who has come to discuss matters of inheritance with her niece. Angelica was informed that her child died of a dread disease two years before. The Princess leaves, and Angelica, seized by great anguish, prepares a poisonous drink from some herbs and drinks it. Suddenly realizing that the sin of suicide has damned her, she begs the Madonna to save her, and the miracle does occur, while all the other sisters are gathered around: the Madonna appears, leading a little blond child all dressed in white, Angelica’s child, who will lead her to Paradise.
